The History of the Indie Garage Sale

2004 - present

The Indie Garage Sale was born in 2004 at Neptune Studios on Roberts Street in Utica, New York. It started with just a close knit group of friends looking to sell their handmade crafts in order to make money for even more crafting supplies.

The small art studio blared with music and was alive with just five vendors selling their unique crafts to the Utica passers-by.

As of 2019, The Indie Garage Sale has changed venues eleven times to accommodate our growing number of vendors: moving from Neptune Studios to The Other Side, The Resonance Center, The RCIL, The Harza Building, Clinton Arena, Union Station, The Jewish Community Center, The Jorgensen Athletic Center at Mohawk Valley Community College, Sangertown Square Mall, the Parkway Recreation Center of Utica, and Accelerate Sports. The popularity of this homegrown grassroots craft show has multiplied, from five vendors and fifty patrons to over 700 vendors (throughout the years) and 8,500 patrons at our peak weekends.

Bringing the arts to Utica has never been so rewarding and uplifting. The Indie Garage Sale provides an outlet for local artists and crafters to come together a few days a year to showcase some of the most unique and well crafted goods around.

Thank you to all who support us and love the "IGS". It is because of people like you that we are able to thrive in the heart of Central New York.
